IDA BARBARA (WITTE) MYERS

Ida Barbara (Witte) Myers, 96, died September 7, 2006, at Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.
Ida was born May 17, 1910 in Danville, IA, a daughter of John Edwin and Sarah Cecelia, (Driskell) Witte.
She married Michael Benjamin Myers at Greensburg, August 31, 1932.
Ida was a resident of Knox County, MO, during her youth and a resident of Scotland County since 1932. She graduated from Edina High School and Gem City Business College, Quincy, IL. She received her undergraduate degree and Master’s degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (Truman University in Kirksville.) She continued post-graduate work in her area of expertise, Special Education.
Ida was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and her husband, Mike, operated the family farm and she assisted him as accountant/bookkeeper for their machinery repair business in Memphis.
Ida was a highly respected educator. She taught school in Knox County, Ogden, UT, Hendricks, Rutledge, Memphis and the Mt. Pleasant District in Iowa. She was the Special Education Consultant for the Area Education Agency, covering Southeast Iowa until retirement in 1975.
Surviving are her three sons, Dr. Michael J. Myers and his wife, Sue of Memphis, MO, Max A. Myers and his wife, Mary Lou of Bloomfield, IA and Charles W. Myers and his wife, Judy of Memphis, MO; two daughters, Barbara M. Callahan and her husband, Jim of Godfrey, IL, and Dr. Beverly E. Myers of Laguna Beach, CA; 14 grandchildren, Tim Myers of Valencia, CA, Tony Myers of Cedar Rapids, IA, Amy Tisdale of Morton, IL, Kris Gillstrom of St. Louis, MO, Natalie Worthington of San Anselmo, CA, Mike Callahan of Anchorage, AK, Doug Myers of Moody, TX, Sherry Mauck of Knox City, MO, Chari Bemis of Kansas City, MO, Melanie Irizarry of Kansas City, MO, Chuck Myers of Chicago, IL, Myca Cuevas-Unick of Bellingham, WA, Caylor Cuevas of Laguna Beach, CA, Mitchell Cuevas of Auckland, New Zealand; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike; three brothers, John Witte, Roy Witte, and one in infancy; two sisters, Nellie Hedberg and Mary Edith Dunn; a daughter-in-law, Callie Myers; a grandson, Dick Myers and an infant granddaughter, Barbara Cuevas.
Mrs. Myers was a member of Edinburg Baptist Church and for a number of years served as secretary for the Edinburg Cemetery Association.
Funeral services were held September 9, 2006, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home at Edina, MO, with Reverend Ernest Deatrick officiating. Music was provided by Angela Westhoff, soloist, and Nancy Reardon, organist. Burial was in the Edinburg Cemetery south of Memphis, MO. Casket bearers were Dr. Tony Myers, Chuck Myers, Kurt Tisdale, Robbie Mauck, Travis Bemis and Juan Irizarry. Honorary bearers were Mike Callahan, Doug Myers, Caylor Cuevas, Sterling Forrester, Charley Houghton, Mitchell Cuevas, Paul Gillstrom, Mike Worthington, Loren Unick, and Tim Myers.
