DOROTHY LOUISE JONES
(8/5/1920 - 7/27/2006)
Dorothy Louise Jones, 85, of Wayland, MO passed away July 27, 2006 at Keokuk Area Hospital.
Dorothy was born August 5, 1920 in Downing, MO to Lee and Pearl Elschlager. She had an older sister, Velma Hull (Jerry) of Kahoka. Her parents also raised Dorothy’s cousin, George Paris (Pauline). George as well as two infant brothers, preceded her in death.
Dorothy graduated from Downing High School. Dorothy married Wayne W. Jones on November 7, 1945 in Keokuk, IA. Wayne passed away August 10, 2003. During their marriage of 58 years they lived in Memphis, then moved to Clark County in 1954. Dorothy was a stay-at-home wife and mother for the majority of the years. She was a caregiver for several family members and a fantastic wife and mother, grandmother.
Dorothy and Wayne operated the Iron Kettle Antique Shop in Wayland, MO. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Keokuk, IA. She made needlework projects and quilt tops for all family members. She was a skilled gardener and canned the many vegetables she and Wayne raised in the garden. She was one of the founding members of the Iowa, Illinois and Missouri Antique Auto Club. She was also a past member of the Mt. Pleasant Iowa Old Threshers. She and Wayne had a 1911 Model T on display at the Threshers Auto Museum for many years. Dorothy enjoyed camping at Lake of Oaks with her sister, Velma and Jerry Hull and special niece Virginia Thomas, RN of Keokuk. Dorothy was the April 2006 Country Aire Retirement Estates at Lewistown, MO “Resident of the Month”. Dorothy loved the loving and very dedicated staff at the residential care facility. She left many friends, but a very special Laveta Stith was her constant companion.
Other survivors are daughters, Carolyn Galbraith of Wayland, MO and Teresa Bogener of Newton, Kansas. Grandchildren are Abby (Terry) Galbraith and Dr. James (Melissa) Bogener of Kansas City, MO, and a surrogate grandson, Daniel Ludwick of Wayland.
Special cousins include Bette (Vernon) Wirsig of Keokuk; Pat (Chuck) Hamilton of Burlington, IA; Raymond Burnett (Dorothy) Jr. McKinney (Evonne) of Moulton, IA and Irene Dalton of Memphis, MO. Other special family members include Kerry and Lucy Beeler, Jr. and Gerry Beeler, Estel and Ruth Beeler and Paul and Maxine Elschlager. Friends include Mary Alice Smeltser of Wayland.
Services were held at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, MO on July 30, 2006. Burial was at Campground Cemetery in Downing, MO.
Memorials may be made to the Campground Cemetery and Cumberland Presbyterian Church Restoration.
