RUTH I. (LONG) PREWETT
(3/16/1923 – 5/13/2006)
Ruth I. (Long) Prewett, 83 of Memphis, Missouri died May 13, 2006 in the Scotland County Memorial Hospital at Memphis, Missouri.
She was born March 16, 1923 to Charles and Pearl Rice Conner at Keokuk, IA. She married James W. Long in 1941 in Monticello, MO. To this union five children were born. James died July 22, 1972. She later married Roy James Prewett in May of 1982 and he died January 2, 2002.
Ruth was a homemaker and enjoyed going to auctions, yard sales and going fishing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved visiting with her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by one daughter, Darleen Hudson and husband Vic of Shreveport, LA, and three sons, Marty L. Long of Memphis, MO, David L. Long and wife Brenda of Memphis, MO, and James E. Long of Decorah, IA. Also one stepson, Louis Prewett and wife Viola, of Warsaw, IL, and three stepdaughters, Judy Peterson and husband Albert of Gorin, MO, Bertha Stevenson of Abingdon, IL, and Hazel Rauch of Elvaston, IL. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Jim Long and wife Amanda of Memphis, MO, Eric Long and Jeff Long of Memphis, MO, Christina Long of Ft. Madison, IA, Chris Long of Decorah, IA, Vickie Hudson, Vincent Hudson, Bryan Hudson and Chris Hudson of Shreveport, LA, two step-grandaughters, Vickie Holton and husband Brian of Memphis, MO and Debbie Moss and husband Robert of Warsaw, IL, several great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Orpha Mortimer and Katherine Mortimer of Keokuk, IA and Maxine Guyman of Witchita, KS and brother in law, Lloyd Prewett of Hopedale, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one daughter, Mavis Irene Leasman, one stepdaughter, Joann Hass, two grandsons, one brother Ed Conner, and four sisters, Gladys, Mary, Joann, and Viola.
Funeral services were held May 18 at the Memphis Funeral Home. Burial was in the Buena Vista Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
A memorial has been established to the Buena Vista Cemetery.
Memphis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
