Paul Sherman Hougland, 97, of Bloomfield, IA, died May 2, 2006 at his home.

He was born April 6, 1909 in Davis County, IA to Ed and Thressa Horner Hougland.

He married Hilda I. Wilson August 9, 1930 in Bloomfield, IA. She preceded him in death November 15, 2005.

He was a resident of Davis County most of his life and was a farmer and school bus driver. He was a member of the Barker United Methodist Church.

He is survived by four sons Jerry (Marilyn) Hougland of Pleasant Hill, IA, James (Charlotte) Hougland of Bloomfield, David (Marlene) Hougland of Cedar Rapids, IA and Charles (Diane) Hougland of Milo, IA; four daughters Helen (Art) Fuhr of Florissant, MO, Doris (Bob) Newton of Bloomfield, IA, Virginia (DeWayne) Mullinix of Downing, MO, and Phyllis (Vernon) Roe of Des Moines, IA; two daughters-in-law Sally Hougland of Indianola, IA, and Carolyn Hougland of Sherwood, AR; 40 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren and a sister Maxine Slavin of Memphis, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sons Harold and Alfred Hougland; a granddaughter Lee Anne Fuhr; three brothers Brayton, Asher and Marquis Hougland and a sister Lyrla May Hougland.

Funeral services were held May 5, 2006 at the Barker United Methodist Church in Scotland County, MO with Barb Hagerla and Dee Wiley officiating. Burial was in the Barker Cemetery in Scotland County, MO, adjacent to the church.

A memorial has been established to the Barker United Methodist Church.
