FLORENCE I. DOWNING
(6/17/1923 – 5/7/2006)

Florence Irene Downing, 82, of Memphis, MO, formerly of Milton, IA, died May 7, 2006, at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

She was born June 17, 1923, in Bloomfield, IA to Ralph and Hazel Gandy Frymoyer.

She married Ernest L. Downing at her parents’ home on June 17, 1940 in rural Davis County, IA. He died May 6, 2001.

Florence retired from the Davis County Hospital in 1989 as a nurse’s aid, and was affiliated with the Grace United Methodist Church of Milton, IA.

She is survived by a daughter, Lois M. Shelley and her husband, Robert of Memphis, MO; five grandchildren, Tony Shelley, Angela Anderson, Lisa and Samanda Downing, and Lori Johnson and seven great-grandchildren, Danielle and Andrea Shelley, Brandon and Jenny Cantril, Tad Anderson, Ryan McDonald, and Idha Downing. Florence is also survived by a sister, Mary Vannoy of Bloomfield, IA; three brothers, Robert and Harold Frymoyer of Bloomfield, IA, and Dean Frymoyer of Ottumwa, IA.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and three sons, Dwight D. and Lyle D. Downing, and one son in infancy and a brother, Lee Frymoyer.

Cremation was accorded her wishes. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date. A memorials may be established for Milton Nutrition Fite. Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home in Bloomfield, IA, was in charge of arrangements.
