Charles J. Simpson, 71,of Versailles, MO, died March 31, 2006, at his home.
He was born January 9, 1935, in Odquawka, IL, a son of John and Loetta Vaughn Simpson.
On June 7, 1953, he married Mary Helen Lancaster, who survives of the home.
He owned and operated Charlie’s Foods in Versailles, MO. He started cutting meat at the age of 17, and was awarded Meat Cutter of the Year in 1981 out of 2,600 stores, was a senator for I.G.A., and served on the board of directors for Affiliated Foods. He was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church, the Rolling Hills Country Club, was an airplane pilot and enjoyed flying and playing golf.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Peggy Simpson of Versailles, Libby Mander of Jacksonville, IL, Cathy Ryherd of Jefferson City, MO, and Dixie Salzman of Versailles, MO; one brother, Clark Simpson of Memphis, MO; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Lee Calton on April 4, 2002.
Funeral services were April 3, 2006, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, MO, with the Rev. Robert Ross officiating. Kidwell-Garber memorial video tributes with vocal selections were shown. Interment was in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Chase Lancaster, Bryan Osment, Ryan McCartney, Beau McCartney, Cameron McCartney, and Michael Probst. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Peggy Lancaster, Stacy Knous, Charley Ann Osment, and Caitlin Osment.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Diabeltes Association. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles, MO.
