EDWIN L. SHULTZ
(5/17/1926 – 3/14/2006)
Edwin Leroy Shultz, 79, of Rutledge, MO, passed away early March 14, 2006, at his home near Rutledge, MO.
Born May 17, 1926, near Greensburg, MO, he was a son of Charley and Minnie Jane (Swearingen) Shultz.
On May 23, 1948, in Memphis, MO, he was united in marriage to Barbara Phinney.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara of Rutledge, MO: four children, Dennis Shultz and his wife, Bobbi of Kirksville, MO, Darlene Daniels and her husband, Larry of Kirksville, MO, Darrell Shultz and his wife, Lisa of near Rutledge, MO, and Diana Brown and her husband, Jason of Normal, IL. There are eight grandchildren surviving, Kevin Shultz and fiance Becky of Kirksville, MO, Brian and Katrina Shultz of LaPlata, MO, Michelle Daniels and fiance Dave Guttman of Churchville, MD, Cory and Collin Shultz of Rutledge, MO, Payton Brown of Normal, IL, Steve Hall and wife, Judy of St. Louis, MO, and Angela Meng and husband, Stan of Oregon, MO. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Aiden Michael Schultz, Courtney Smith, Brittney Eitel and Jordan Mega. Other relatives include three sisters-in-law, Glada Shultz of Rutledge, MO., Eileen Boernsen of Troy, MO, and Barbara Ewalt of Baring, MO., and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His parents, one sister, Edith Phillips, and three brothers, Ernest, Eldon and Emmett Shultz preceded him in death.
Edwin was engaged in farming all his life and was also employed with the Santa Fe Railroad for several years.
He served in the United States Army from February 1945 to December 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Army Occupation Medal (Japan) and served one year in Okinawa.
Edwin was a member of the New Testament Church at Rutledge and a board member of the Knox County Soil and Water Conservation District and he was recently awarded a plaque for thirty years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Sandhill and Pauline Cemetery boards and a former member of the Rutledge School Board.
He loved his family, especially the grandchildren and enjoyed going to country music shows and taking pictures.
Funeral services were held March 17, 2006, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Reverend Jim Brown and Reverend Charles Hammock officiated the services. Music was provided by Rev. Jim and LaMayra Brown. Burial was in the Pauline Cemetery at Rutledge, MO. Casket bearers were Mike Carpenter, Lowell Woods, Don Kutcher, Craig King, Clay See, and Dave Mackey. Honorary bearers were Ken Berry, Larry Clark, Jim Pinson, Lucas Brass and John Pinkowski. An expression of sympathy in memory of Mr. Shultz may be made to Hospice 2000 or to the New Testament Church of Rutledge, MO.
