WINIFRED M. CROLEY

Winifred M. Croley, 92, of Memphis, MO, passed away February 5, 2006 in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
She was born November 25, 1913, in Rutledge, MO, the daughter of Grover and Edythe Bertram.
Winifred moved to Memphis in 1934, where she began her successful business career as owner of her own beauty shop.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Boyd T. Croley; daughter, Sue Payne and husband, Phil of Memphis, MO; son, Tom Croley and wife, Andrea of Springfield, MO; five grandchildren, Kimberly Payne of Naples, FL, Stephanie Deer and husband, Ross of Leawood, KS, Kit Colpitts and husband, Peter of San Francisco, CA, Trevor Croley and wife, Cabrini of Springfield, MO, and Lindsley Withey and husband, Matt of Denver, CO; and four great-grandchildren, Claire and Cooper Croley and Bryn and Brady Deer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Edythe Bertram, and grandson, Andrew Croley.
She enjoyed her life as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid card player with her regular bridge and pitch clubs. Winifred was well known for her love of shopping, going to auctions, and being involved in the Red Hat Society.
Memorials are suggested to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958 in Memphis and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.
Funeral services were held February 7, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles McCracken officiating. Musicians were Connie Courtney, organist, and Lori Fulk, soloist. Pallbearers were Paul “Bud” Burns, Joe Fulk, Dail White, Joe Neese, Jr., Frank Reed, and John Dodge. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
