ALBERT LEE WINN
(5/23/1938 – 1/16/2006)

Albert Lee Winn, 67, of rural Memphis, MO, passed away January 16, 2006, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO, where he had been a patient since December 2005. Albert had been diagnosed with lung cancer in 2004, and had been battling the cancer since that time.

Albert was born May 23, 1938, in rural Downing, MO, the son of Silas Lee Oren and Jewell Alberta (Anders) Winn. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

On April 2, 1960, Albert was united in marriage to Druzella Aldridge at Queen City, MO, and to this union five children were born, in addition to raising one nephew as their son since he was six days of age.

Albert is survived by his wife, Druzella of 45 years; one daughter, Zella Ann Thoenen and her husband, Dennis of Mexico, MO; five sons, Frankie Lee Winn and his wife, Dinah of Mexico, MO, Terry Wayne Winn and his wife, Brenda of Memphis, MO; Jimmie Allen Winn and his wife, Dorene of Memphis, MO, Rex Gale Winn and his wife, Beverly of Downing, MO, and Randall Lee Aldridge and his wife, Jenny of Memphis, MO; six grandsons and five granddaughters, Jesse Lee Winn, Jarrod Andrew Winn, Jewelee Marie Winn, Kaylan Elise Winn, Justin Wayne Winn, Nicholas Allen Winn, Shelbey Ruth Winn, Khelcie Ellen Winn, Lynnedee DruAnn Winn, Kyle Austin Aldridge, and Aden Charles Aldridge; three brothers, Charles Winn, and his wife, Barbara of Kirksville, MO, Eugene Winn and his wife, Barbara of Hallsville, MO and Lonnie Winn and his wife, Sharon of Boonville, MO; two sisters, Virginia Gray and special friend, John Wayne of Kirksville, MO and Marjorie McFarland of Kirksville, MO; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Aldridge; three brothers-in-law, Lee Chancellor of Kirksville, MO, Thomas F. Lewis of Downing, MO, and Larry Aldridge and his wife, Ilene of Queen City, MO; an uncle, Oscar Anders of Fountain, CO; 11 nieces and 17 nephews as well as several great-nieces and nephews.

Albert was a skilled carpenter. He and his friend, Bill Coffrin had performed many jobs for people in the Memphis community. In his young years, he worked in the wheat fields of Kansas, at the Swift Packing Plant in Des Moines, IA, Leland Jackson Trucking in Downing, Harris Service Station in Downing, Garrett MFA Service Station in Memphis, from 1970 to 1985 he worked for Leland and Ruth Cantril in Memphis, and lastly Winn’s Sinclair operated by Jimmie and Dorene Winn in his latter years.

Albert took great pride and joy in serving the community, particularly through his membership in the Scotland County Antique Fair Association. Albert was president of the association from 1999 to 2006. Albert took equally as much enjoyment with Winn’s Treasure Train. Albert and Druzella traveled with the Treasure Train to carnivals and functions in northeast Missouri, spreading happiness to all the children who rode the train.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Frankie Lee Winn, Jr.; sister, Helen Nadine Chancellor; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Lewis and Ann Aldridge; three-brothers-in-law, Lowell Gray, Charles Aldridge, and Sam McFarland; four nieces, two nephews, and one great-niece.

Albert will be deeply missed by family and friends, who know that he’s at peace, and no longer suffering.

Memorials are suggested to the family, and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held January 18, 2006 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Pastor Dan Hite officiating. Burial was in the Coffey Cemetery, rural Downing, MO. Pallbearers were Bob Gregory, Bob Trueblood, Roger Gosney, Wayne Mathes, Richard Briggs, and Tom Priebe. Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Huff, Bill Coffrin, Tommy Lewis and Robert Owings and his grandsons, Nick Winn, Jesse Winn, Jarrod Winn, Justin Winn, Kyle Aldridge and Aden Aldridge.
