LEO MILTON DARR

Leo Milton Darr, 90, of Memphis, MO, passed away January 20, 2006, at the Scotland County Care Center, in Memphis, MO.
Leo was born on April 3, 1915, in Marion County near Emerson, MO, the son of Forrest M. and Clara Grace Darr.
He attended Emerson School and graduated from Emerson High School in 1933. He attended Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO, where he met his wife, Lenore M. Adams. He enlisted and served in Civil Conservation Camp during the 1930ís.
Leo was united in marriage to Lenore Adams on April 20, 1937 and to this union two daughters were born, Luzonne and Mary Ann.
Leo was employed by Sears Farm Stores as assistant manager and salesman in Macomb, IL and Mt. Sterling, IL. During World War II he worked at the Iowa Ordinance Plant near Burlington, IA, as timekeeper and plant supervisor. In 1945 he and his family moved to Scotland County and began farming near Memphis. He was a successful farmer for many years until retirement in 1995.
During his farming years, he was active in the community. He was elected in 1960 and served as a supervisor of Scotland County Soil Conservation District. He was a charter member of the Memphis Rural Fire Corp. and served as vice chairman of the board. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Memphis serving as an elder and an active member of the church board for many years.
Leo was a devoted, loving husband to his wife, Lenore, and his daughters, Luzonne Darr of Holt, MI, and Mary Ann Barb and husband, Richard of Columbia, MO. He is loved by his four grandchildren, Diane Braselton and husband, Fred of Columbia, MO, Teresa Magruder and husband, Michael of Columbia, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Megan Braselton, Courtney Braselton, Joshua Braselton, Madeline Magruder, Emily Magruder, Jacob Brannon, Colton Barb and Carson Barb; a nephew, Glenn Slates and wife, Valdeen of Chesterfield, MO; two nieces, Joann Slates and Janet Smith and husband, Terry of Branson, MO; two half-nephews, John Exon of Tucson, AZ, Robert Exon of Evergreen, CO; a half-niece, Ina Exon of Ajo, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lillian Slates, and a half-sister, Majorie Exon.
The family has suggested memorials to The Shiloh Christian Childrenís Ranch and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.
Services were held January 23, 2006, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Joe Fulk and Glen Lister officiating. Musicians were Connie Courtney, organist, Lori Fulk and Angela Westhoff, vocalists. Pallbearers were Fred Braselton, Daniel Barb, Michael Magruder, Kenneth Monroe, Bill Adams and Terry Fincher. Honorary pallbearers were Hillis Baker, Glen Lister, Scott Westhoff, Lloyd Erickson, Keith Chance and Wilbert Lohmann. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
