JEYRL LEON STONE
(7/15/1931 - 12/22/2005)

Jeyrl Leon Stone, “Stoney”, 74, passed away Thursday evening, December 22, 2005 at his home in Memphis.

He was born the son of James Francis and Bertha Elizabeth (Props) Stone on July 15, 1931 in rural Bible Grove.

Jeyrl served in the Uniteds States Army. He was stationed with a supply detachment in Okinawa during the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

He married the former Arlene Riney in 1955. To that union two sons, Mike and Ron, were born.

Jeyrl later married the former Denise Treece. They spent 18 happy years together. She survives.

He worked for Harris Motor Company in Memphis for over 20 years. Stoney later drove for Peterson Milk Transport and then for 25 years with M&O Concrete before retiring in 1996.

Jeyrl had a passion for motorcycles and traveled many miles. He made an annual trip to the Sturgis, SD, rally. He also enjoyed fishing. Most of all Jeyrl loved his grandchildren – he was very proud to be a grandpa.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Lillian and her husband Eldon Simerl and Marjorie and her husband Jr. Simerl; and infant brother, Lloyd Dean.

He is survived by his wife, Denise Stone of the home; sons, Mike and his wife Kathy Stone and Ron Stone, all of Memphis; a stepson, Pastor Scott Yates and his wife Lauren of Pawnee, IL; a stepdaughter, Toni and her husband Jason Middleton of Memphis; grandchildren, Jenny Stone of Warrensburg, Harley Stone, Hailie Stone, Cameron Stone, and Kendra Yates, all of Memphis, and Isaac Yates of Pawnee, IL; a sister-in-law, Delma and her husband Chris Smith of Kahoka; a brother-in-law, Donn Treece of Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Memorial services were held December 27, 2005 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Pastor Scott Yates officiating. Karen Stone and Joan Hinds provided the music. Military rites were conducted by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial V.F.W. Post #4958 of Memphis.
