MoDOT To Seal Route A In Scotland County Next Week
HANNIBAL - MoDOT crews will be using cinders and oil to seal Route A in Scotland County from Route 136 to Route M at Rutledge. Traffic will be reduced to one lane between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., beginning Tuesday, August 29. The project should be complete in 2 to 3 working days, weather permitting. If the project is delayed, crews will cease this operation Monday, September 4 due to the Labor Day holiday; work will begin again on Tuesday, September 5.
Cinder sealing is a preventative maintenance measure that helps preserve the current condition of the road, but doesn't contribute to the smoothness of the surface. The project consists of placing a thin overlay of cinders and oil on the roadway to seal and protect the pavement and extend the pavement life. The roadway can be driven on soon after applied. However, motorists are encouraged to drive slowly on the newly sealed road or to use an alternate route to avoid delays.
Crews will be working daylight work hours; traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers and a pilot car controlling traffic through the work zone. The roadway will be opened to two lanes at the end of each workday. Please allow ample driving time to your destination.
