Pump Outage Closes Pool Temporarily
Cooler, rainy weather made it a little easier to handle when the bad news spread around town that the Memphis Municipal Swimming Pool would not be open August 14th and 15th.
On Monday, August 14th, Water Superintendent Dennis Howard discovered the pool’s chlorine pump had malfunctioned. The pump was removed and a new pump was to be delivered overnight and installed the following day.
“This was just a small pump, but unfortunately we can not have swimmers in the pool without the chlorine process functioning properly,” Howard stated.
The pump, an approximately $250 machine, was installed new in 2005 when the pool opened.
Howard indicated plans to maintain a spare pump to prevent this type of problem in the future.
