MoDOT Resealing Route 136 in Schuyler County
Missouri Department of Transportation maintenance crews began a cinder-seal operation to approximately 12 miles of Route 136 in Schuyler County Monday, July 10. The process began at the junction of Routes 63 and 136 and will continue east to the Scotland County line.. The work will take place Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day.
Traffic will be reduced to one-lane in one-mile segments during this process, which should be completed within 4 working days, weather permitting. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and choose alternate routes when possible.
A cinder-seal involves placement of oil and cinder chips on the driving surface. A roller is used to work the cinders into the oil. Later, the excess cinders are removed from the roadway. The North Central District will lay approximately 20,000 tons of cinder seal on 163 miles of our high-volume minor routes throughout the district this summer. This preventative maintenance process extends the life of the pavement by sealing and rejuvenating the roadway.
