Fire Destroys Barn on Gene Holtís Property
A barn on the Gene Holt property north of Arbela was completely destroyed by an early morning fire July 2nd.
A neighbor notified the Scotland County Fire Department of the blaze at 3:04 a.m.
Five fire trucks were dispatched to the scene with 16 volunteer firemen answering the call. The barn was already down when the firemen arrived. One hose crew doused remnants of the fire at the south end of the building to preserve several stacks of concrete forms that were stored there. One truck remained on the scene to ensure the fire did not spread to hay bales in the adjoining field.
The cause of the fire was not determined. The fire department was on the scene for approximately one hour.
