Fairís 128th Showing Arriving A Little Early
It doesnít seem like it could be that time of year yet, but the 128th annual showing of the Scotland County Fair will kick off Saturday, June 17 at the fairgrounds west of Memphis.
The junior dog show will have opening honors, starting the 2006 fair at 9:00 a.m. that Saturday morning. A queen contest is scheduled for Sunday afternoon with the bulk of the events kicking off beginning June 19th.
Monday night will feature the crowning of the 4-H royalty and the state fair farm family followed by the junior horse show.
Tuesday has been set aside for art hall entries with the grandstands opening up a busy week with a night of auto races featuring sprint cars.
Wednesday evening will have dairy and breeding cattle exhibitors in the show ring. The Great Plains Rodeo will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
Thursday evening will be kidsí armband night from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Car races will be back for the grandstand spectators to view modifieds, stock cars and hobby stocks.
The youth get back into action Friday evening with the steer, sheep and goat shows. Racing action in front of the grandstands will switch to two wheels with motorcycles taking to the track as well as ATV races.
The livestock exhibitors will have their animals in the spotlight Saturday morning for the junior livestock sale.
The carnival rides will get another workout on Saturday with a second armband day from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The grandstand finale will be the Scotland County Fire Departmentís demolition derby on Saturday night.
