School Board Makes Extra Duty Assignments At June Meeting
A number of coaching jobs and extra-curricular activities were assigned by the Scotland County R-I Board of Education during the executive session of the regular May 17th meeting.
The board also voted 7-0 to offer contracts to Emily Frederick for Elementary Special Education, and Mathew Reel for High School Math in executive session. The closed meeting continued with a 7-0 vote to offer continued employment to Jerri Mohr as Business Manager and Michella Hull as Secretary to the Superintendent.
The following extra duty assignments were approved by a 7-0 vote by the board: athletic director – Andrea Dabney; varsity softball girls – Terri Slaughter; junior high softball-girls - Kelli Swearingen; assistant junior high softball - Katy Houston; varsity football-head coach - Brent Bondurant; assistant varsity football - Doug Baker, Jason Hannam and Nathan Pippert; junior high football – Baker and Hannam; varsity basketball girls - Kelli Swearingen; varsity basketball boys Ryan Bergeson; assistant varsity and JV basketball boys – Doug Baker; 7th grade girls basketball - Jo Beth Harvey; 8th grade boys basketball - Jason Hannam;
Varsity track-girls - Andrea Dabney; varsity track boys Doug Baker; junior high track girls Terri Slaughter; junior high track-boys Nathan Pippert; varsity cheerleaders - Terri Bulen (football) and Marie Brown (basketball);

The following positions were not filled at this time: assistant varsity softball-girls; assistant varsity and JV basketball-girls, junior high cheerleaders, varsity and junior high campus bowl, 8th grade girls basketball, 7th grade boys basketball.
A couple of the vacancies on the list were created when the board accepted the resignation letter of Ched Hurley, who indicated he would be taking a position closer to his home in Putnam County. Hurley, who had been a special education teacher at the elementary school, had served as an assistant coach for the softball and girls basketball programs.
In addition to assignments for the 2006-07 school year, the board also approved the staff lists for the 2006 summer school as prepared and presented by the elementary and high school principals. The summer school staffs for both schools were approved by a 6-0 vote with Gary Miller abstaining.
In other business, the board voted to solicit bids for purchasing a new walk-in cooler for the high school kitchen. The board also okayed soliciting bids for the sale of the district’s current 11’x 8’x8’ cooler.
Bids were opened for the sale of surplus weight equipment with the Scotland County Fitness Center being awarded the leg press machine for a $300 bid and a plate-loaded incline press machine for $150.
The board voted 7-0 to hold a special meeting June 26th in addition to the regular monthly meeting. This second date is necessary to end the current fiscal year and to approve a budget for the 2006-07 fiscal year.
