Antique Fair Association Preparing For August Event
The Scotland County Antique Fair Association held its regular monthly meeting on April 10, at the Antique Fair Building. President Bob Gregory called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m., with 18 members present.
Aside from the regular monthly business taken care of, the group discussed preparation for this year’s fair, which will be held August 24th through 27th. Those nominated at the last meeting to be Parade Grand Marshal and King and Queen have been contacted, and have accepted. This year’s Quilt Show will be in the former Cooper Printing Building just off the southeast corner of the square. Dr. Larry Wiggins has donated use of the building and association members have volunteered to supply labor for some interior painting. Plans are also underway to give prizes for winners at Friday night’s tractor games.
It was reported that the serving of food at auctions during the past month has been very successful. This is the Antique Fair Association’s main fundraiser during the year, and since our March meeting we have served at six auctions in addition to serving the election day meal, and have raised more than $5,000.00. This money will go towards the expense of putting on the fair, and the lot we have purchased to use for fair events.
Anyone interested in donating to the Antique Fair, or joining as a member to help carry out one of Scotland County’s most beloved annual events, may do so by contacting any Association member, or attending the next meeting, May 8, at 7:00 p.m. at the Antique Fair Building located on the west side of the Memphis square.
