Hospitalís New Womenís Center Nearing Completion
by Amy Hunziker
Exclusive to Northeast Missouri, the Scotland County Memorial Hospital Womenís Center is nearing completion. The project, which was partially funded by a grant from Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) and Scotland County Memorial Hospital, is underway and completion is anticipated in 2006.
Since groundbreaking last spring, the architects and contractors have diligently been working to complete SCMHís newest addition. The facility is now enclosed and partitioned off to make up two labor, delivery, and post-partum rooms with Jacuzzi and showers, patient rooms that accommodate four patient beds, newborn nursery, operating suite, nurses station, physicians conference room, and family waiting area.
Inside the soon to be completed Womenís Center, the sheetrock is hung, drywall is almost finished, and the Womenís Center will soon be ready for SCMH maintenance staff to paint. Once painted, contractors for the expansion project will be back to put in drop ceilings. Currently, contractors are still in the process of completing the wiring and plumbing.
As for the outside of the new facility, the building is almost finished. Completion of the awning is soon to be done, and once the inside of the facility is completed a sign will be placed on the front of the building. Towards spring, landscaping will be done around the new facility to complete the new look of SCMH Womenís Center.
The Womenís Center, which will feature the new location for the SCMH birthing center, will be located adjoining the east end of the hospital just north of Memphis Medical Clinic. ďThis location will serve a dual purpose, not only connecting the facility to the hospital but also allowing easy access for the physicians who can easily access the OB wing from the clinic,Ē said SCMH CEO Marcia Dial.
While the construction of the Womenís Center is underway, there are still several tasks yet to complete and anticipation for the completion of the facility is escalating.
Once the project is complete, SCMH will host an open house open to the public in hopes that all will attend to share in the excitement of the new SCMH Womenís Center.
