Successful Benefit Caps Off Golf Course Fund-Raising Efforts

Phenomenal public support helps Timber Ridge Golf Course meet its goal of raising $25,000, triggering $20,000 pledge from anonymous donor.

Faced with a significant financial challenge, the community stepped up to the plate and hit a home run this past week as Timber Ridge Golf Course capped off a frantic couple of months of fund raising in an effort to eliminate the clubs long-term debt.

The organization finalized the successful fund drive with a benefit dinner, auction and dance held February 18th at the Memphis V.F.W. More than 200 guests enjoyed a dinner provided by Post #4958 in conjunction with the Ladies Auxiliary.

Following the meal, approximately 100 items donated by local businesses and golf course boosters were auctioned off to the highest bidder. A number of raffles were held during the night as well. Andy Middleton was the big winner, taking home a 52 RCA high-definition television when his name was drawn out of the hat. Mark Mattingly and Donnie Middleton won the other two big raffle items, a hand-crafted poker table and a $250 gift card from Cabelas.

The event highlighted two months worth of fund raising by the golf course. The club was able to raise more than $25,000 after learning of that magic number at the first of the year. At that time an anonymous donor had pledged to give the country club $20,000 if the membership could raise an additional $25,000 prior to March 1st.

Heading into Saturday night, the golf course had received strong financial support for the effort, but it took a successful evening to finally reach the goal.

The efforts will allow Timber Ridge to eliminate roughly $32,000 in debt remaining from when the club installed grass greens several years ago.

The debt elimination, combined with the remaining revenue from the fund-raising efforts will help the club start the 2006 season on much improved financial ground.
