Fire Damages Home On Bence Avenue
An observant passerby and some quick response time by the local fire department helped save a Memphis home after fire was discovered at the residence at 3:33 p.m. on Monday, February 20th.
When the fire department arrived on the scene at the Eric Sevier residence on Bence Avenue just two minutes later there were already flames shooting through the roof adjacent to the chimney.
Hose teams quickly doused the home from the outside while another team donned air masks and entered the second story of the house where the blaze was centered. The firemen were able to bring the fire under control, limiting fire damage to the roof and three upstairs rooms.
The fire occurred near a propane wall heater, but at press time a cause had not been officially determined. The Missouri State Fire Marshalís office was scheduled to visit the scene February 21st to determine the cause of the blaze.
More than fifteen firemen answered the emergency call, responding to the residence with five fire trucks. They were on the scene for approximately 90 minutes.
