World Day Of Prayer To Be Held March 3rd
Christian women of South Africa invite men, women and young people from around the world to share with them in the World Day of Prayer Service being held on Friday, March 3rd. The chosen theme is “Signs of the Times”. In the service we are invited to take courage in the Risen Lord who is the sign of all times.
The people of South Africa are known as the “Rainbow Nation”, since many colors and races comprise their national make-up. There are 11 official languages and a variety of cultures. The problems of unemployment, drug addiction, and HIV/AIDS overwhelm them. The Christians’ prayer is that we may all be signs of hope and compassion in the world, joining together to build up the kingdom of God.
The first Friday in March gives people from Christian communities in over 180 countries the opportunity to worship and pray on a common theme. In Scotland, services are held in locations as diverse as prisons, churches, schools, universities, hospitals, eventide homes, hostels for the homeless and shopping centers. Offerings from the services are given to the Scottish Bible Society and Feed the Minds, for Christian literature work.
The World Day of Prayer, on Friday, March 3rd, gives the opportunity to pray for and with the people of South Africa share in a time of praise and worship with fellow Christians in your local community. Community services will be held at Downing United Methodist Church. Registration will be 11:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Lunch will be at 12:00 noon and services at 1:00 p.m.
