Michael Burks To Perform at Winter Party

The Lil Memphis Blues Society has done it again. The local music fans will be bringing yet another big name in the Blues industry to Memphis. Michael Burks will headline the groups Winter Party to be held Sunday, February 5 at the Memphis VFW Post 4958. The show starts at 2:00 p.m.

Burks is a rising name in the industry. He was nominated for three W.C. Handy Awards in 2004 with his second album, I Smell Smoke. He was nominated for contemporary album of the year and contemporary song of the year, for the CDs title track, I Smell Smoke. Burks also was nominated for guitar player of the year.

Man, Ill tell ya, said Burks, I dont play music for my health. I do it because I love it. Blues is life experience, and my blues comes from my heart.

Even though he has been playing music since he was a child, it was the release of Make It Rain, his Alligator Records debut in 2001, that brought Burks well-deserved national recognition and made him one of the blues worlds fastest-rising stars. With musical roots connecting him to Albert King, Freddie King and Albert Collins, Burks sound and style are all his own.

Blues Revue says, Make no mistake, Burks is his own bluesman. Hard-hitting blues, outrageous toneblazing, explosive solo skillspart rock, part soul and filled with plenty of blues sensibility.
