Donor Offers $25,000 Challenge To Timber Ridge Golf Course

Is there a patron saint of golf? If there isnít, the Timber Ridge Golf Course may have found the closest thing to a savior for the game. An anonymous donor recently pledged a gift of $20,000 to the local golf course. The catch is that the country club must raise $25,000 on its own by March 1st to earn the donation. If the challenge isnít met, the donor indicated the gift would be reduced to $5,000.

If met, the challenge would mean the local not-for-profit organization could retire its entire debt load left from the construction project that made the transition from sand to grass greens several years ago.

At that time, the course raised approximately $95,000 of the $160,000 project cost in advance, meaning it had to borrow the remainder.

ďFor those of you that played a part in the massive undertaking that resulted in grass greens, we know that together we can again succeed,Ē stated a letter to the membership from the board of directors. ďThis is a one-time offer from a member that is extremely interested in the future of Timber Ridge and this community.††We as the membership should accept this challenge as a team effort with similar enthusiasm, combining the tremendous gift with a sustained drive to meet our part of the bargain.Ē

Despite significant cost saving measures taken at the course, the club has been unable to retire that debt as it attempts to maintain the lowest possible membership costs while providing the best golfing resource for the region.

Eliminating the annual bank payment would allow the course to revert that money to the maintenance and upkeep of the nine-hole course.

In an effort to inform the public of the project, the Timber Ridge Board of Directors is hosting an open meeting on January 30th at the Memphis Fire Station. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend the question and answer session where fund-raising ideas will be discussed.

Individuals interested in helping the golf course meet the challenge can forward donations to Timber Ridge Golf Course, PO Box 222, Memphis, MO 63555 or contributions can be left at Community Bank of Memphis where Emily or Reva will take the donation for the course.

ďWe plan to do whatever it takes to meet this challenge,Ē the board stated in its letter.
