Chamber of Commerce Making Plans For 2006

As the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce moves into a new year, new faces are moving into the officer positions. Jessica Kliethermes will be taking on the chairperson position for the chamber while Michele Drummond will be filling the secretarial position. Currently the vice-chairperson and treasurer positions remain vacant.

Several items were on the agenda for the January 10th meeting of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce, the first item being the empty positions of vice chairperson and treasurer. If any chamber member would be interested in holding one of these positions they are encouraged to contact Jessica Kliethermes at 465-2999 or 216-8559.

The chamber would also like to encourage all members to be involved in the monthly meetings and the events MACC sponsors throughout the year. Maybe as the owner or manager you don’t have the time to devote to every meeting or every event. The chamber would encourage you to get your employees involved and have one of them represent your business at the chamber meetings. Even having an employee present at a chamber event shows your support to the chamber and the community.

January is also known as membership month for MACC. Area businesses will soon be receiving their renewal notices for the 2006 year. If you are not currently a member of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce and would be interested in joining please contact, Jessica Kliethermes. Membership dues will remain at $60 for 2006 and includes a page on the chamber website, www.scotlandcounty.net, which is currently being updated.

The MACC will be sponsoring ribbon cuttings starting in 2006 for all new businesses/grand openings/ anniversaries and expansions. If your business falls into any of these categories please notify the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce well in advance of your event. The first ribbon cutting will be on January 28th for the open house of the Scotland County Community Fitness Center in Memphis.

The 2006 Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce’s proposed calendar is as follows: January – Membership Month; February – Valentine’s Dance; March – open; April – Pancake Days; May – Arts and Crafts Fair; June – Peanut Days; July – open; August – open; September – open; October – Halloween Safe Stops and Halloween movie; November – Christmas Open House; December – Saturday Matinees and Santa’s Visit.

The chamber will be sponsoring a Community Valentine’s Day Dance on Saturday, February 11th for families. The dance will be from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Scotland County Fitness Center Gym. Advance tickets will be on sale at the Fitness Center, Kountry Konnection, Bank of Kirksville-Memphis Branch, Community Bank of Memphis and US Bank in Memphis, Mark and Ethel Barrett, and the Flower Garden. Advance tickets are available until February 10 and are $3.00 per person, children five and under are free. Admission at the door will be $5.00 per person. There will be concessions at the dance and those in attendance will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win door prizes.

The next meeting of the MACC is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 6:30 p.m. at the Madison House Bed and Breakfast. Meetings are typically the second Tuesday of the month but due to the meeting falling on Valentine’s Day it is being rescheduled one week earlier. We hope to see all members or people considering membership at the February meeting.
