Races Shaping Up For Mayor, Marshal and Alderman
With less than a week remaining in the filing process, a number of candidates have thrown their hats into the ring for municipal offices in Memphis.
Four candidates have signed up to run for the office of Mayor in the April 2006 election. Former alderman Mike Stone, who was appointed to the position by the council following Mayor Ron Alexanderís resignation last year, will seek election to the office. He will be opposed on the ballot by Roger Gosney, Ronald Kice and Samantha Brush.
The City Marshal job already has five candidates filed for the position. Incumbent Steve Snodgrass will be opposed by current Memphis Police Department officers Michele Miller and Chris VanHoozen as well as former officers John Myers and Mark Drummond.
There are three candidates filed for the two-year term as east ward alderman. William Reckenberg, who currently is serving in the position after being appointed by the council to fill Stoneís vacant seat, has filed for the election. He will face Bryan Brush and Win Hill, who filed late last week.
Currently no candidates have filed for the west ward alderman position currently held by Teresa Skinner.
Filing closes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17th.
