Eighth Grade Teams To Close Out Season At Schuyler County Tourney

The Scotland County eighth grade basketball teams will close out the 2005-06 season next week at the Schuyler County Tournament.

The girls will play the host team at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3rd. The boys play the 8:00 p.m. game that evening squaring off versus the Rams as well.

The Lady Tigers will try to notch their first victory after battling through an 0-13 run in 2005.

The season got off to a “scary” start on Halloween, October 31, when Clark County defeated SCR-I 35-4.

Canton roughed up the Lady Tigers in game two of the year with a 58-8 loss. McKinsay Cooley led Scotland County in scoring with four points.

Scotland County rebounded with a strong performance on November 3rd, but Putnam County edged by Scotland County 28-23. Brooklynne Simpson paced SCR-I with seven points and Jessica Sites added five.

Schuyler County handed the Lady Tigers a 46-11 defeat to drop the season mark to 0-4.

Game #5 was a rematch versus Clark County, with the Lady Indians prevailing 41-10.

November 15th saw Scotland County fall just two points shy of breaking into the win column as Milan escaped Memphis with a 25-23 win. Elizabeth Small had nine points and Josie Holt added six points.

Just two days later, SCR-I was back at it again, this time it was Putnam County, that narrowly escaped defeat. The Midgets held on for a 26-22 win over Scotland County despite a strong game from Ashley Westhoff off the bench.

The action continued the following night as Scotland County took on Schuyler County at the Putnam County Tournament on November 18th. The Rams won 36-25. Small poured in a season-high 11 points and Simpson finished with eight while Kelly Lister had a strong game in the paint for the Lady Tigers.

North Shelby knocked off the Lady Tigers 48-14 on November 24th despite a good game from Ti Waibel.

December didn’t start well for Scotland County, as the Lady Tigers dropped a December 1 game at Knox County by a final mark of 25-8.

Putnam County bested SCR-I 26-14 the next night out to send the team to 0-11.

The offense got rolling on December 12 but Putnam County proved to be too much in a 38-24 loss. Small topped the scoring attack with eight points while Simpson finished with seven points.

Knox County sent SCR-I to the Christmas break with a 29-17 defeat. Small matched her season-high with 11 points and Lister finished with three points.
