Free Throws, Balanced Attack Lead SCR-I Past LaPlata

A two-point halftime deficit quickly disappeared in the second half as Scotland County went on a 37-18 run to blow out LaPlata 61-44 in the semifinals of the Novinger Tourney December 1st.

The two teams played a fairly evenly matched first two quarters. The Tigers led 14-13 after the first period in large part to the play of Lathan Watson and Grant Blomme.

The Bulldogs rallied in the second period and broke a 24-24 tie just before halftime to take a two-point advantage into the locker room.

The third period was all Scotland County. The Tigers clamped down on the defensive end, holding LaPlata to just five points. Scotland County did the bulk of its damage at the free-throw line. Cody Musgrove was a perfect six-of-six from the charity stripe in the quarter as the Tigers pulled ahead 36-31.

Bryce Blomme scored all eight of his points in the fourth period as the Tigers completed the rally with a 25-13 run in the contests final eight minutes.

Matt Wickert added six points and Cody Musgrove had five points during the run that insured Scotland County a place in the tourneys championship game Saturday night versus top-seeded Green City.

The Tigers, the sixth seed in the bracket, improved to 2-0 on the year by knocking off the second ranked Bulldogs.

Musgrove led SCR-I with 13 points. Wickert finished with 12 and Chris Humes added 10 points in a balanced scoring attack for SCR-I. Grant Blomme finished with eight points and Watson pitched in with seven.

The Tigers made 25 of 33 free-throw attempts.

Matt Fouch led LaPlata with 14 points as the Bulldogs were held to 44 points after averaging more than 80 points a contest in the teams first two games.
