Lady Tigers Battle Back For Tourney Consolation Title
It was an uphill battle for the Scotland County softball team from the get-go, but the Lady Tigers nearly pulled off the comeback in game one of the Schuyler County Tourney before ultimately settling for the consolation title.
SCR-I simply dug to big a hole to escape in the tourney opener versus Milan on September 24 in Queen City. The Wildcats jumped on SCR-I for seven runs in their first at bat.
SCR-I cut the deficit too 7-3 in its first at bat and added another run in the second inning to cut the deficit further. With the score 7-5, the Lady Tigers mounted one final charge in the team’s last at bat. Jamie Fuller tripled with one out and Deidra Dochterman walked to put the tying runs on base. Fuller scored on a sacrifice fly by the tying run was stranded in the 7-6 loss.
Kirsten Johnston and Angie Bulen each had two hits in the loss.
Karra Small shut out Milan over the game’s final six innings. She allowed 14 hits in the game and walked one while striking out five.
Scotland County rebounded in game two with a 10-5 victory over Atlanta. SCR-I jumped out in front 3-0 in the first inning. The game was tied 5-5 after four innings but Fuller and Jessica Bair each scored a pair of runs in the last three innings to help the Lady Tigers to the victory.
Fuller went four for four in the game and scored four times. Bair had three hits and also crossed the plate four times while Dochterman and Kellyn Wickert each had two hits in the win.
Small pitched out of bases loaded jams in three separate innings to pick up the win. She had five strikeouts in the victory.
The Lady Tigers’ offense exploded in the consolation game as SCR-I blasted Novinger 15-1. Ali Fromm went 3-3 with a double, triple and home run. She and Bair and Dochterman accounted for nine runs scored.
Small allowed just three hits over five innings of work. She struck out five and walked none.
