Five-Run Fifth Inning Fuels Lady Tigers Win
Scoring by inning proved beneficial for the Scotland County softball team, which posted an 8-2 victory over Schuyler County Tuesday, September 6th in Memphis.
The Lady Tigers scored one run in the first inning. Kirsten Johnston led off the game with a walk. She stole second base and scored on a wild pitch to make the score 1-0.
The second frame saw SCR-I plate two runs, Deidra Dochterman opened the rally with a base hit. She scored on a hit by Brandi Kapfer, who later scored courtesy of a Schuyler County error to put the Lady Tigers on top 3-0.
Schuyler County rallied to cut the deficit to 3-2 as SCR-I fell off the scoring pace in innings three and four.
But the theme resurfaced in the fifth inning as Scotland County exploded for five runs to blow the game open.
Valerie Oldham started the charge with a lead-off single. Kirsten Johnston drove her in with a triple. Kellyn Wickert then delivered an RBI single followed by another base knock for Ali Fromm. Jessica Bair continued to be a doubles machine as she drove home both runners with a drive into the outfield gap. Bair came home later in the inning to make the score 8-2.
Karra Small made that margin hold up as she shut down Schuyler County to help the Lady Tigers improve to 5-3 on the year. Small went the distance allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out four.
