Crawford To Play In McDonalds/Herald-Whig Classic All-Star Basketball Game in Quincy

Itís not North versus South like the Civil War but as far as area hoops players are concerned the annual McDonalds/ Herald Whig Classic all-star basketball game represents bragging rights in the border war between Illinois and Missouri high school seniors.

Valerie Crawford will represent Scotland County R-I high school in the all-star game to be played Saturday, June 11th at Pepsi Arena on the campus of Quincy University in Quincy, IL. The girls game will tip off at 5:00 p.m. with the boysí game slotted to start at 7:30 p.m.

A total of 40 high school seniors are selected to represent Illinois and Missouri, with 10 players on each stateís boysí and girlsí teams. The rosters are set by the Quincy Herald Whig newspaper, one of the eventís sponsors.

Crawford was selected after closing out her four-year varsity career at SCR-I in 2005. She earned all-conference honors after helping lead the Lady Tigers to a 16-11 mark. She was among the team leaders in scoring and rebounding, filling a versatile role both on the perimeter and in the paint.

She will join a talented squad to represent the Show-Me state headed up by Palmyraís Nichole Myers, a 6-1 senior center that is headed to Western Illinois to play basketball and 5-10 forward Cody Chinn of South Shelby who has signed to play at John Wood College in Quincy.

The rest of the roster includes Melinda Chatman, Kelly Vallar and Stacey Henderson all from Louisiana; Cara Feldkamp of Canton; Meredith Rash of South Shelby; Whitney Mahsman of Mark Twain; and Leah Wilson of Marion County.

They will face a talented Illinois team led by a pair of familiar faces. Twins Ashley and Brittany Brownlee of Warsaw were a thorn in the side of SCR-I fans the past three years, and the talented sister duo will try to lead their team to another win over Missouri.

The rest of the Illinois squad will include Sara Liesen, Jessi Butler and Angela Siebers of Quincy Notre Dame; Casey Swisher of Carthage; Lindsey Rogers and Anna Leeds of Quincy; Lynn Neisen of Liberty-Payson and Anna Hechler of Barry-West Pike.
