Cardinals End SCR-I Campus Bowl Season In District Semi-finals
South Shelby sent the Scotland County campus bowl squad packing as the 2005 season came to a close in the semifinals of the District #4 Academic Competition held at South Shelby High School April 16th.
The Tigers advanced through the 10-team field to make the final round. The bracket play started ominously for the Tigers as they did battle with South Shelby. SCR-I led 150-125 at halftime before the Cardinals rallied for a 295-195 victory. Julie Triplett answered six toss-up questions and Lance Smith added four for the losing cause.
The Tigers took on Westran in game two and had to rally from a first half deficit to stay alive in the tourney with a 255-190 victory. Triplett topped the scoring with 80 points and Smith and Loren Billington combined to answer nine toss-up questions.
Scotland County made quick work of the Paris squad in game three, pounding the team to the tune of 375-150 behind a balanced scoring attack. Triplett led the way with 90 points while Brett Courtright got into the act answering seven toss up questions. Michelle Lodewegen scored 40 points and Smith had 50 points.
The two straight wins helped push SCR-I into the semifinals where they ran into the host squad for a second time. The Tigers led 80-40 after the first period but the Cardinals battled back and pulled ahead 160-115 at the break.
SCR-I made several charges but never could get closer than 15 points as South Shelby held on for the 240-205 win to end the Scotland County season.
Triplett topped the scoring with eight toss-up answers. Smith had three and Billington and Courtright each had two.
