Lady Tigers’ Defense Denies Brookfield
Any basketball team will take a 14-point victory. But the 50-36 score did not tell half the story for the Scotland County Lady Tigers who closed out the 2004-05 regular season by soundly defeating Brookfield.
Just days after a disheartening loss to district rival Canton, Scotland County rebounded with one of its most impressive defensive performances of the year.
The SCR-I defense was down right stingy, allowing Brookfield just four first period points. The home team faired little better in period two, barely reaching double digits before halftime.
The Lady Tigers’ performance was not limited just to defense. The points were pouring in in the first half as SCR-I quickly put the game away. Scotland County led 13-4 at the end of the first period before a 21-8 run put the game out of reach for Brookfield.
The 22-point halftime deficit was too much for the host team to overcome. The Lady Tigers cruised through the third period, leading 43-21 before Brookfield trimmed the deficit slightly for the final margin of 50-36.
Ali Fromm led all scorers with 24 points as she nailed four three pointers on the night. Rebecca Consbrock contributed 10 points in the winning effort and Valerie Crawford and Angie Bulen each added five points.
Scotland County closed out the year with a 15-10 mark and 4-3 in the Tri-Rivers Conference. Brookfield fell to 2-20 and 2-5 in league play.
