Lady Tigers Pound Bulldogs In 59-27 Win
Nine different players put points on the board as Scotland County cruised to an easy 59-27 victory over LaPlata in a tune up for next week’s district tournament. The Lady Tigers built a double-digit lead early and never let the Bulldogs back into the game.
“LaPlata is a young team and we took advantage of their inexperience,” said Coach Kelli Swearingen. “From the start we took control of the game and never looked back.”
SCR-I jumped out to a 18-5 advantage in the first period. Jamie Fuller led the way with five first period points.
Ali Fromm had eight points and Angie Bulen added six points in the second quarter as Scotland County put the game on ice with a 21-8 run. Fuller chimed in with another five points as the trio combined for 19 of the team’s 21 points in the quarter.
Valerie Crawford scored all six of her points in the third period as the Lady Tigers started spreading the scoring around. Fuller hit her third three pointer of the night, while Bulen, Fromm, Brittney Courtright and Jacqui Drummond all put up points as the rout was on.
“It was a good game to get a lot of people the playing time that they needed going into district play,” Swearingen said.
While the Lady Tigers spread the ball around on the scoring end, it was the defensive effort that impressed the team’s coach the most.
“I thought our defense was the key tonight,” Swearingen said.
Her team did not allow LaPlata to reach double figures during any of the game’s four quarters.
Scotland County improved to 14-8 on the season. Fromm led all scorers with 18 points on the night. Fuller finished with 13 points and Bulen added nine points. Crawford and Courtright each contributed with six points.
