Lady Tigers Overcome Slow Start To Blow Out Eagles 60-25

The first eight minutes of Friday nightís basketball game likely had the Scotland County Lady Tigers flashing back to earlier in the week when the team struggled to put points on the board in a tough loss at Milan.

SCR-I walked into a tough setting on February 11, playing in front of a packed house at Knox County that was topped off by the schoolís courtwarming activities.

The Lady Tigers did their best to quite the raucous crowd to start the game. Ali Fromm drilled a three pointer to open the scoring. A basket by Ashlee Frederick put SCR-I on top 5-2.

But SCR-I went scoreless over the next five minutes allowing Knox County to pull ahead 6-5.

Jamie Fuller converted a layup at the 2:47 mark for the final points of the opening period for either team, leaving Scotland County on top 7-6.

ďAfter the first quarter, I told them to settle down and get over the jitters,Ē said Coach Kelli Swearingen. ďThey [Knox County] were definitely feeding off the crowd early on. We just needed to settle down and take care of business and thatís what we did in the second period.Ē

Scotland County matched its first period scoring output in just 37 seconds in period number two. Fromm hit a pair of three pointers and Valerie Crawford converted a free throw to make the score 14-6 with 7:23 left in the period.

The Lady Tigers did not let up off the gas pedal. Fromm hit her third triple of the period. Jamie Fuller connected on a couple of buckets and Rebecca Consbrock made two free throws as the SCR-I lead ballooned to 24-7 with 2:30 remaining in the first half.

The Tigersí defense limited Knox County to single digits in the first half, building a 31-9 advantage.

Fromm continued to light it up in the third period. The junior guard hit two more three pointers and totaled 10 points in the quarter as the Tigers rolled on to a 46-18 bulge.

The scoring continued to favor the Lady Tigers as they put points on the board at a 2:1 rate in the final eight minutes to build a final margin of 60-25.

Fromm led all scorers with 27 points, including a season-high seven three pointers. Ashley Ellison finished with seven points and Ashlee Frederick and Jamie Fuller each pitched in with six points. SCR-I improved to 13-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Knox County (4-15, 0-5) was led by Stephanie Hicks with 12 points.
