LOWELL DAVID NEWLAND

Lowell David Newland, 70, of Downing, MO, passed away October 17, 2005, at his home after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

The son of Lowell Eugene and Dorothy Lucille Priest Newland, he was born on March 1, 1935, at their home in rural Scotland County, MO.

On September 19, 1954 in Scotland County, MO, David married Mary Louise Shelley, who survives.

David is also survived by one daughter-in-law, Janis Newland of Leander, TX; three sons, Rodney Newland and his wife, Tammy of Downing, MO, Douglas Newland and his wife, Debra of Glenwood, MO, and Kirk Newland and his wife, Tiffany of Queen City, MO; three daughters, Tracy Carroll and her husband, Vernon, Terri Bruner and her husband, Jim, all of Downing, MO, and Melissa Kinney and husband, David of Kirksville, MO; one sister, Marilyn Blessing and her husband, Junior of Downing, MO; one brother, John Newland and his wife, Mary of Oskaloosa, IA; his father-in-law, William J. Shelley, of Memphis, MO, of Memphis, MO; nine grandson, Jarod Newland of Lubbock, TX, Jeremiah Newland of Downing, MO, Chris Newland, Kyle Newland, both of Glenwood, MO, Noah Newland of Queen City, MO, Todd Carroll and his wife, Amy of Springfield, MO, Clayton Carroll of Rolla, MO, Alex Bruner and Drew Bruner, both of Downing, MO; five granddaughters, Heather Frymoyer of Lancaster, MO, Mallory Carroll of Downing, MO, Haylee Kinney and Callyn Kinney, both of Kirksville, MO; three great-granddaughters, Madison Newland, Paige Frymoyer, both of Lancaster, MO and Emma Carroll of Springfield, MO, and one great grandson, Caleb Carroll of Rolla, MO.

His parents; one brother, Ernest Newland; one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and George Osier; his mother-in-law, Mary Shelley; one son, Michael Newland; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Newland preceded David in death.

David was baptized when he was a teenager and was a member of the Barker United Methodist Church in Scotland County, MO.

David and his wife were engaged in farming their entire married life until his retirement in 2000.

Memorials have been established for the Hospice of Northeast Missouri or the Dover Cemetery.

Funeral services were held October 20, 2005 at the Barker United Methodist Church with Roger Bushnell, pastor of the Worthington Baptist Church officiating. Barbara Blessing, pianist, and soloists, Jamie and Charlie Bunch provided the music. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Jarod Newland, Jeremiah Newland, Chris Newland, Kyle Newland, Todd Carroll, and Clayton Carroll. Honorary bearers were Alex Bruner, Drew Bruner and Noah Newland. Burial was in the Dover Cemetery, east of Downing, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, MO.
