WILLIAM MANSEL GARRETT

William Mansel Garrett, 86, of Memphis, MO, died on September 15, 2005, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.
Mansel was born on March 28, 1919, in Scotland County, MO, the son of William Earl and Bertha Alice Hays Garrett.
He attended Scotland County schools and graduated from Memphis High School in May of 1937.
On October 2, 1940, he married Hildred Pearl Cross, and to this union two children were born. Hildred passed away on April 2, 1975.
Mansel worked 39 years for the Memphis Democrat newspaper and then three years for the Sheriffís Department as a deputy, retiring after having a heart attack.
On September 8, 1976, he married Genevieve Scott.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Memphis, MO, where he served on the official board as a Deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mildred Wilson and Maxine Walker.
He is survived by one son, Jerry Garrett of Memphis, MO; one daughter, Sharon Hicks and husband, Paul of Des Moines, IA; two step-children, Marcia Rankin and husband, John and Mike Drummond and wife, Jeanie, all of Memphis, MO; and one sister, Betty Jean Napier and husband, Richard of Mineola, TX; two grandchildren, Eric Blesie and Tonya Jansen; six step-grandchildren, Jared, Mark and Corvin Drummond, Dawn Miller, Mathew Rankin and Eric Hicks; two great-grandchildren, Kendall Kay Jansen and Ethan Richard Blesie; three step-great-grandchildren, Megan, Abbi, and Riley Rankin.
The family has suggested memorials to the First Christian Church of Memphis, MO or the American Heart Association, and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.
Funeral services were held September 17, 2005, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Brother Jack Sumption officiating. Music was by Ann Luther, organist, and Joe Fulk, soloist. Pallbearers were Jared Drummond, Cory Drummond, Mark Drummond, Eric Blesie, Matt Rankin, and Eric Hicks. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
