ROBERT WILLIAM DAY
Robert William Day, 82 of Wayland passed away July 13, 2005 at the Lexington Square Care Facility in Keokuk, IA.
He was born the son of Otto Orville and Blanche Elizabeth (Wright) Day on December 4, 1922 in Packwood, IA.
Robert served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corpsí 15th Air Force 484th Bombardment Group based in Cerignola, Italy. For his service, Robert was awarded the EAME Ribbon with two bronze stars, an Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He married the former Wilma Faye Anders on November 25, 1945. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Following the war, he returned to the States and was employed as a press operator at Hoerner Boxes in Keokuk, IA for 25 years. Robert and Wilma moved to Ashton, MO, after his retirement. After his wifeís death, he moved to Wayland Senior Haven, Wayland, MO where he had resided the past four years.
Robert enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his wife; parents; sister, Opal Marie; and son in law Ron Roberts.
He is survived by his sons, Bobby Joe and wife Brinda Day of Kansas City, MO, William Otto and wife Rosalina Day of Tucson, AZ, Douglas Lee Day of Des Moines, IA, Randy Roger Day of Minneapolis, MN, David Bruce and wife Peggy Day of Keokuk, IA, and Kevin Scott and wife Beth Day of Urbandale, IA; daughters: Judy Roberts of Keokuk, IA, and Candy and husband Mike Mueller of Cedar Falls, IA; brothers, Rodney and wife Doris Day of Gorin, MO, Don and wife Juanita Day of Cantril, IA, Earl and wife Carol Day of Abingdon, IL, Bert Day of Promise City, IA, and Richard Day of Salem, OR; sisters, Vera and husband Howard Hamilton of Arbela, MO, Esther and husband Johnny Johnson of Hugo, OK, and Leona Mae Oliver of Monmouth, OR; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the Gerth Funeral Home in Memphis, with Pastor Bill Willis officiating. His sons Bobby, William, Douglas, Randy, David, and Kevin Day served as pallbearers with Donald Day, Rodney Day, Earl Day, Bert Day, Richard Day, and Mike Mueller serving as honorary pallbearers. Amanda Day provided special music. Burial was in the Ashton Cemetery. Military graveside rites were performed by the Kahoka American Legion Post #192.
