Phillip Leslie “Phil” Coffrin, 68, of Pekin, Illinois died March 27, 2005 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. He was formerly of Memphis, Missouri.
Born June 14, 1936 in Keokuk, Iowa to Samuel Leslie and Jewell Evelyn Day Coffrin, he married Sandra Kay “Sandy” Marlow on June 26, 1964 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother of Pekin; two sons, Brian L. “Deb” Coffrin of Peoria, Illinois and Gregory S. Coffrin of Pekin; one daughter, Cynthia M. “Cindy” (Jeff) Gress of Mapleton, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Joshua A. Gress and Jonathan D. Gress, both of Mapleton, Illinois, and Samantha C. Coffrin of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his father on April 23, 1989 in Memphis, Missouri and one infant daughter (Nola R. Coffrin in 1957).
Mr. Coffrin owned and operated Midstate Heating and Cooling in Pekin since 1971. He also worked for Trouble Free Plumbing, Heating and Cooling in Pekin since October 2004. Previously, he worked for Drum Transport in East Peoria, Illinois and Newlun Transport in Pekin from 1964 to 1974 where he was operations manager.
He did missionary work for Bearing Precious Seed of Milford, Ohio. He also did missionary work in Haiti and had a college named after him in Cape-Haitian, Haiti.
He was a member of Bayview Baptist Church in Washington, Illinois. He was a charter member of both the Christian Business Men in Pekin and the Contractors Success Group, where he received the Contractor of the Year for 1997. He was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Pekin for 38 years, where he was a trustee for over 30 years, past Sunday School Superintendent, was instrumental in beginning the Bus Ministry, had served on the building committee, and also had served on the board for Faith Baptist Christian School in Pekin.
Funeral services were April 1, 2005 at Bayview Baptist Church in Washington, Illinois. The Rev. Keith D. Thibo and Rev. David J. Wetterlund officiated. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
