Four File For Embattled City Marshal Office

Filing opened with a flurry on Tuesday, December 13th as four candidates signed up to run for the position of City Marshal in Memphis. The candidates were lined-up in front of city hall for the right to be listed first on the ballot.

Mark Drummond will be listed first on the Marshal ballot. Joining him on the list is another former Memphis police officer, John Myers. Current officer Michele Miller was the next to file, followed by incumbent city marshal Steve Snodgrass.

Filing officially opened on Tuesday for the April 4, 2006 election. In addition to the city marshal position, Memphis residents also will elect a mayor, one east ward alderman and one west ward alderman.

Filing opened across the county for a number of positions.

Gorin R-III School district will elect two board members to new three-year terms and also will fill a one-year unexpired term.

Scotland County R-I High School had heavy activity on the opening morning of filing for two three-year terms on the board of education. Incumbents Gary Miller and Ellen Aylward both refiled on December 13th. Stacey Alexander and James Kice also filed for the positions.

Municipal filings also have opened in Arbela and Granger. Arbela will elect three trustees. Candidates may file with City Clerk Karen Simpson. Candidates in Granger can sign up at Barkerís Garage.

The Scotland County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors will fill a six-year term for the 4th district. The position, which consists of the west side of the city of Memphis, is currently filled by Dwight DeRosear.

Filing has begun for the Scotland County Nursing Home District. Voters will fill three-year terms for the third and fourth sub-districts.

Hospital and care center board members file in the office of the Scotland County Clerk.

The Consolidated Public Water Supply District #1 of Scotland County will elect directors for sub-districts #2 and #3. Candidates may file in the water districtís main office.

Filing for the April 2006 election will be open until January 17th, 2006.
