Pheasants Forever Banquet To Be Held Saturday Night

The first weekend in November means its time to let the bird dogs loose and head to the field as pheasant and quail season is open in Missouri beginning November 1. For the past nine years, the opening weekendís festivities havenít ended at sundown as the Northeast Missouri Chapter of Pheasants Forever traditionally schedules its annual banquet for that first Saturday night of the season.

This year is no different, as the group will host the 9th annual fund-raiser for wildlife. The event offers a chance for hunters and wildlife enthusiasts to host a fun-filled evening for the public to help support local habitat projects and wildlife management plans. Pheasants Forever is the only national wildlife conservation organization that leaves all of the fund-raising dollars at the local, grassroots level where they were raised. This enables the more than 600 local chapters nationwide and their more than 100,000 members, to see the benefits of their efforts in their own backyards. Last year alone, those chapter volunteers completed over 35,000 habitat projects.

Promoters point out that guests donít have to be pheasant hunters to attend. The public is encouraged to attend the event and enjoy the meal and an evening of entertaining games and a live auction.

The 9th Annual NEMO PF Banquet will be held Saturday, November 5th in Memphis at the V.F.W. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and allow guests to view the numerous auction items and to get an early start on a variety of games and raffles.

Once again the event will feature a wide variety of framed wildlife prints by some of the nationís most renowned artists. The live auction also will include a number of pieces of PF merchandise and other items.

Guests will have the chance to participate in a number of raffles and other entertaining games including the ďKill it, and Grill itĒ raffle that will send one lucky winner home with a Knight muzzleloader and a new gas grill.

A Remington BDL .270 deer rifle with a Nikon Buckmaster scope will highlight the list of guns to be given away at the event. A Browning Gold shotgun will also entice guests.

The group continues its effort to encourage youth participation in hunting and wildlife conservation. Any guest under the age of 15 can join the PF youth group, Ringnecks. All Ringneck memberships bought at the banquet will be entered into a drawing for a gun give away.

The lucky Ringneck member wonít be the only youth taking home a new firearm. The chapter is continuing its support of the Missouri Hunter Safety Education program and will be giving away guns to the owners of the two top scores from the tests this year.

PF exists to protect, restore, and enhance wildlife habitat by establishing and maintaining local and regional projects. The local group annually distributes food-plot seed and trees to be planted. The annual banquet has funded purchases of equipment available to members for use in planting food plants and managing CRP grounds.

The chapter also helps develop, distribute and foster conservation education by supporting the hunter safety programs and the local 4-H shooting teams.
