Texas Man Hurt In Crash On Highway 136

A Texas man suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 136 in Scotland County on Sunday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 7:50 p.m. five miles west of Memphis.

Miguel Plata, 42, of Houston, TX, was eastbound in a 1993 Ford truck when he collided with a hay trailer being pulled by a 1999 Ford driven by Henry H. Blessing, 33, of Memphis. The trailer had no lights, and reportedly was yielding to westbound traffic attempting to pull into a private drive.

The Plata vehicle impacted the rear of the wagon at a high rate of speed, causing the driver to be pinned inside the cab of the truck. The Scotland County Fire and Rescue squad extricated the driver using the Jaws of Life.

Plata was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Memorial Hospital. He was then taken by AirEvac helicopter to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Blessing was not injured in the crash. Both Plata’s vehicle and Blessing’s hay wagon were totaled in the crash.

Plata was cited for driving while intoxicated.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Fire and Rescue Squad, Scotland County Ambulance Service and the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department.
