Family Brings Mishra Back to Memphis and SCMH

Who says you cant ever go home? After more than a decade working in Texas, Margaret Mishra returned this spring to resume her career at Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Margaret grew up in the town that her mother still calls home. She graduated from high school in Scotland County and even came back to Memphis after graduating from Northeast Missouri State University with a nursing degree to work at the local hospital.

But then Mishra left home and went to graduate school at the University of Missouri. She became a womens health nurse practitioner and earned a masters degree in nursing.

Her travels landed her in Texas where she worked in the nursing field for eight years. She spent the past two years teaching O.B. and womens health nursing classes at Stephen F. Austin State University.

But Margaret decided to come back home, in part to be closer to her mother, and in part to continue her career at SCMH.

They had been recruiting me for a while and I was interested in the opportunities the hospital had for me, So I decided to come back home, Mishra said.

Margaret currently is serving as a case manager at SCMH. She coordinates services for patients, assessing needs and searching for resources to meet the patients requirements ranging from medicine, equipment or physical therapy to post-treatment housing, nursing coverage or transportation.

Each patient has a variety of different needs based on their particular situation, financial background or whatever, she said. I simply try to help each one of them by coordinating all the available services to make the process as stress free as possible.

It wont be long before Mishra will be doling out many of the medical services on her own. She recently completed her family nurse practitioner training and anticipates completing her certification in the next month or two. Then she expects to be offering office hours through the Memphis clinic.

While she is looking forward to the new career opportunity SCMH has afforded her, Mishra said that being home and close to family simply cant be beat.

The move has allowed her to spend much more time with her mother, Joyce Weaver. Shes also enjoying being close to her daughter Meera, and the grandkids.

Memphis is just a great place to come back home to, Margaret said. People are so friendly. Its a wonderful community. Im glad my family chose it.
