At the December 2004 Missouri State Board of Directors of the George C. Clark Missouri State Chapter, National Wild Turkey Federation budget meeting, board members approved an extremely aggressive budget of over $273,596.30 for 2005. These projects stand to improve habitat on both public and private ground and support outdoor recreation safety, awareness, and education in the Show Me State.

A total of more than $102,000 was allocated for 25 different habitat and equipment projects including ATV and tractor implements, water units, bush hogs, mowers, tillers, disks, burn equipment, spray units, tree planting, native grass seed and herbicide, cost share for area specific private lands projects, native seed harvesters, and seed drills.

Another $38,050 or 14% of the super fund money went to support educational programs such as the MO Vocational Agricultural program, Canon Envirothon, high school hunting and fishing club activities, Land Learning Foundation outdoor Learning Skills workshops, scan-tron for hunter ed., projection systems, turkey symposium, and the Discovery Center.

Support for shooting sports was another high priority, with 15 projects earning a total of $30,526.30 to pay for a sporting clays trailer, guns for various local 4H clubs, blinds for youth and disabled hunts, walk-in area signs, support for collegiate shooting teams, and building an archery field.

NWTF spent $20,000, or seven percent of the money earned across the state at its banquets for local and state scholarship awards, Scotland County R-I senior Amanda Watkins cashed in on this opportunity, earning $2,250 for college from the conservation organization.

Other funding went to a variety of projects such as Women in the Outdoors, and the NWTF youth program, JAKES.
