Fire Damages Home On East Mety Street
The Memphis Fire Department responded to the report of a fire at a residence at 356 E. Mety Street in Memphis on Monday evening, April 25. The firemen were dispatched at 6:09 p.m. and were on scene at 6:13 p.m.
Law officers were first to arrive on the scene and found a large amount of smoke coming from the home. The fire was quickly brought under control. The occupant of the house had apparently placed a rug on the furnace and the recent cold spell had enacted the heat, which ultimately caught the rug on fire. The blaze had begun to spread from the initial ignition site when the first responders arrived.
Firemen used the thermal imager to locate remnants of the blaze that had spread through the floor into the cellar.
The fire department was on the scene for approximately 30 minutes. A total of 16 firemen responded to the call.
