Tip Leads To Meth Drug Bust In Rutledge

For the second time in less than a month a tip from a concerned neighbor has led the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department to an active methamphetamine lab.

According to Sheriff Wayne Winn, the department received a call complaining of a suspicious odor originating in a neighborhood in Rutledge. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21. Two sheriff’s deputies were able to locate the residence where the smell was originating.

Winn stated that when he arrived on the scene his officers were questioning an individual at the house regarding the odor. The suspect abruptly terminated the question and answer session and attempted to flee into the home. The officers were able to apprehend him after a brief altercation.

Arrested was Robert J. McFeeley, 47, of Kirksville. He is being held in the Scotland County Jail on a $100,000 bond on charges of resisting arrest, assaulting a law officer and two Class B felony meth distribution and manufacturing charges.

Officers returned to the residence with a search warrant. An inspection of the home uncovered a large quantity of pre-cursors used in the manufacture of meth-amphetamine. In addition, officers also discovered residue from what was believed to be previous “cooks” of the illegal drug.

“This is another example of how public support can lead to arrests,” Winn stated. “These types of tips don’t always payoff, but these last two success stories should encourage citizens to get involved and help us put a stop to these criminal activities.”

The sheriff’s department contacted surrounding agencies with a description of a vehicle that had been seen leaving the residence.

The tip led to a traffic stop in Adair County by the Adair County Sheriff’s Department, where three individuals were arrested after an alleged meth lab was discovered in the car.

Sheriff Winn reported that Roger Shrouf and Dale Bowdrey of Kirksville and Mike Brogean of Edina, were arrested following the traffic stop. Additional information regarding the Adair County arrest was not available at press time.
