Dairy Day Program Set for February 24th in Memphis

The Memphis Dairy Day program that has been held for several years will again be held on Thursday, February 24th at the VFW Building. The program will run from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with lunch provided courtesy of several sponsoring businesses. There is no cost to attend and all dairymen are invited. The program will include Joe Horner, University of Missouri Extension Dairy Economist from Columbia talking on “Making Sense of Your Milk Check” followed by Dr. Jenny Lindquist, veterinarian from Edina giving a “Current Health Issues” discussion on BSE, etc. After lunch Leon McIntyre, Agronomy Specialist from Linn County will talk about “Roundup Ready Alfalfa”, Joe Koenen will address “Missouri’s Complicated Fence & Boundary Laws” and finally Joe Horner will conclude the day with a talk about “Parlor Payback – Costs for New Parlors & Remodeling”. The Dairy Cost and Return Outlook will be discussed as well in the morning.

“This program has been extremely successful for many years and we’ve tried to continue that this year” said Joe Koenen, Agricultural Business Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension who coordinates this event. “We’ve again given dairymen more time during the day to visit with those businesses that have booths. We feel like we have another top-notch program lined up this year.”

The program would not be possible without the help and financial support of our sponsors. Our sponsors for this year include the Bank Midwest N. A. (Kirksville); Citizen’s Bank of Edina; Community Bank of Memphis; US Bank of Memphis; Scotland County Livestock Market; Miller Dairy Sales; Helmuth Repair, Inc.; Memphis Farm & Home; Smith Brothers Farm Supply, Inc.; Fleer Feed; S & D Dairy Supply; NEMO Feed & Supply; Oberholtzer Farm Supply; Wood Run Dairy Equipment/Westphalia Surge; Alta Genetics and SmartLic Supplements.

Milk and cheese are provided that day through the courtesy of Prairie Farms and Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) with cups and napkins provided by Farm Credit Services. Keith’s Café of Memphis furnishes the meal.
