Paper Makes New Year’s Resolutions

The New Year, of course means New Year’s resolutions. The most popular personal pledge for the upcoming twelve months is to lose weight, get in shape and become healthier.

While the newspaper’s ownership has made promises along those lines, the Memphis Democrat also wanted to make guarantees to our readers on a professional level.

The newspaper will once again publish the court report as well as the land transfer files from the circuit clerk and recorder’s office. Both items are being brought back by popular demand. However, the paper will still offer property owners the courtesy of not listing their transfers, upon request. Such petition must be submitted to the newspaper office in written form. The land transfer report will begin in February, listing the land sales, etc., for the month of January.

“Please remember, this is a courtesy offered by the newspaper,” stated Publisher Chris Feeney. “All land transfers are a matter of public record. We will do our best to honor the requests of individuals not to have their transfers listed.”

The same cannot be said for the court report. All cases disposed of by the Scotland County Associate Circuit Court will be reported. The report will begin this week with cases handled by the court during the month of November. The newspaper’s goal is to publish the court report weekly or every other week, with records no older than one month from the court finding.

The Memphis Democrat is not stopping there. We plan to unveil a new digital photo website that will allow viewers the opportunity to browse through all of the pictures taken by the newspaper’s photographers. The internet site will allow viewers the opportunity to purchase prints, download digital copies and much, much more. Ultimately we would like to archive all of our photos, including the hundreds of pictures that don’t make it into print, to allow readers to build scrapbooks or simply keep a memory or two.

Look for a link to the photo site at the newspaper’s webpage www.memphisdemocrat.com as well as in upcoming ads in the newspaper. While you’re visiting our free website please don’t hesitate to view an ad or two that might catch your eye. The website is totally free to viewers. By patronizing the advertisers, you can help the newspaper continue to offer this free service, as each click helps us generate revenue.
