Tiger Trail Team Hosting 4th Annual Walk-a-thon
Once again it is time to put on your walking shoes to help support the Tiger Trail. The Tiger Trail Team will host the Fourth Annual Tiger Trail Walk-a-thon on Saturday, February 19 at the Scotland County Rec-Plex. The activity will get underway at 9:00 a.m. and last until 1:00 p.m.
The event will feature teams of up to five members competing to compile the largest total number of laps walked during the four-hour event. Only one team member will be on the track at a time. The designated walker will drop a penny in his or her team’s counter bottle. Teams are asked to bring their own pennies. Spotters will track each team and score the event on a bulletin board for spectators to follow.
There is a $20 entry fee per team. Deadline for entry is Monday, February 14.
Chairperson Vivian Perry indicated that organizers have a full morning of entertainment lined up for participants and visitors.
“Each year we try to improve the walk-a-thon,” she said. “This year we’ll be adding heart healthy booths and demonstrations.”
Organizers will also be offering free blood pressure and fasting blood sugars testing. Fasting cholesterol screenings will be available for a small fee. Other proposed booths and demonstrations will include the PACE group, Tae Boe, tae kwon do, aerobics, Yoga, stress management, heart healthy diet, Smokebusters, weight lifters, Weight Watchers, wellness group and demonstrations of fitness center equipment.
There will be heart healthy snacks available and participants will be taking home prizes from a number of drawings held throughout the day.
