Bryce Blommeís Barrage Not Enough To Bring Tigers Back

Bryce Blomme bombed away from behind the three-point arc to fuel a mad fourth quarter rally but it wasnít enough for Scotland County to overcome a 20-point deficit as the Tigers lost to Knox County 84-74 on December 17 in Memphis.

The two teams locked in a back-and-forth battle early in the game. Matt Wickert had a pair of baskets in the first quarter as seven different Tigers scored helping SCR-I stay within striking distance, trailing 18-17 after one period of play.

The Tigers fell behind early in the second period but came roaring back. Jared Shelley started the rally with a three-point play. After Lathan Watson scored in the paint, SCR-I regained the lead at the charity stripe where Greg Neagle and Dustin Roach each hit a pair of free throws. Roachís two freebies put the Tigers ahead 27-25 with 4:07 left in the first half.

The two teams traded the lead back and forth for the rest of the half. Neagle and Shelley each hit key three pointers to help SCR-I remain tied, 39-39 heading into the intermission.

The third quarter proved to be the Tigers downfall. Knox County outscored SCR-I 23-5 as the Tigers offense disappeared.

Blomme hit a pair of free throws to start the third quarter. The Tigers did not score again until the 2:41 mark when Wickert put two points on the board with a drive to the bucket that cut the Knox County lead to 57-53.

Trailing 62-44 heading into the fourth period the Tigers mounted one last charge. Bryce Blomme did the bulk of the dirty work as he hit back-to-back three pointers to cut the deficit to 66-51. Blomme followed that up with a rare four-point play, as he was fouled on the shot as he made his third straight three pointer.

Greg Neagle then went to work in the paint. The senior post player hit a couple of free throws before scoring a hoop in the lane. On the next possession Neagle grabbed an offensive rebound and converted a three-point play to bring the Tigers to within 10 points at 72-62 and force a Knox County timeout.

But the Tigers could not come up with the defensive stops to sustain the rally. The Teams continued to trade baskets.

The closest the Tigers could get was down by seven points, despite three pointers from Shelley and Blomme.

Knox County finished the game with three 20-point scorers. Kellen Stokes and Brett Hamlin each had 21 points while Garet Nunan had 20 points, including an impressive two handed dunk in traffic late in the first half.

Blomme led all scorers with a career-high 23 points. Neagle had a season-high 15 points and Shelley finished with 10 points.

The Eagles improved to 3-3 on the year while SCR-I dropped to 1-5.
